Why You Shouldn’t Book A Photo Session
A sarcastic photography blog based on popular reasons why people forgo getting professional photos done.
I don’t want to spend the money
I agree … that new brand name purse/jacket/shoes in your closet or that fancy car in your garage are much more valuable than heirloom photographs of your family that you can hand down to future generations.
Family photos just aren’t my priority
Mine either! I absolutely abhor taking photos of my cute, funny nieces for my sister to enjoy and to gift to our parents.
I’d much rather prioritize grocery shopping, doing too many weeknight activities that I have little relaxation/quality time with family or sit in front of the tv on weekends.
We’re too busy
I’m sure it’s dang near impossible to find 30 minutes to play, laugh, hug and smile with your kids. 😉
I have plenty of time to capture my slow-growing newborn
Of course you do! Your baby will look the same at 3-months-old as he did when he was born, right?
So, by all means, don’t worry about capturing your newborn’s tiny toes and little fingers within the first couple weeks of being Earth side.
We don’t have any nice clothes to wear
My closet is also completely devoid of decent clothing, and I just hate having an excuse to treat myself to new threads.
I mean, I’ll buy some cute shorts and tops for our annual Florida getaway, but purchasing a boutique dress that flatters my figure in a beautiful color for family photos? Absolutely not!
I don’t like how I look
When your kids are grown up and you are gone, they will look back at these cherished family images and and they’ll probably show these photos to their children …
… but maybe not if you have wrinkles and are 20 pounds overweight. So you definitely want to take care of all that before you get family photos done, right?
WRONG! Your children love you for all that you are – you know this! They want to see photos of not just them, but them with you! Moms, you need to be IN photos, not just the one behind the camera taking photos of your kids with dad.
Also, if you’re a teen and are dreading senior portraits, your parents are excited about them! They want printed photographs of you smiling, being who you are at this time in your life, before you go into the big world and morph into an adult.
I don’t want photos of my family in my home
Oh, I know … showing your children how much you love them by displaying their adorable faces on your walls would be so cruel!
I recently read an article about the effect family photos in the home have on kids…
“𝙋𝙨𝙮𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙨 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙥𝙝𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙝𝙤𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙡𝙗𝙪𝙢𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛-𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙢, 𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙠𝙞𝙙𝙨. 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙪𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙙𝙡𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙛𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙥𝙝𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙨, 𝙞𝙩 𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙠𝙞𝙙𝙨’ 𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜.” (Dr. David Krauss as quoted in a Chicago Tribune story)
It went on to say how children said they felt more confident and valued as well.
